I had an ex for whom any piece of laundry that fell on the floor when switching from the washer to the dryer, or when taking it out of the dryer, was instantly contaminated. The doomed sock, or towel, or what-have-you, was then immediately put back into the dirty laundry to be washed again.
To this day, every time I drop a piece of washed or dried laundry, I feel a moment of “ruined!!”, followed by a small pang of guilt as I say “fuck it”, and throw it back in with the clean stuff.
